Funny AF Academy

Comedy Gym

Be funny on purpose.

Funny is a muscle with a memory. Twenty minutes a day beats a weekend workshop every single time — and every lab in this room is a different machine to train on.

Streaks are dumb. Streaks also work.

What it does

  • Break the set into premises, bits, punches, tags and transitions.
  • Flag dead zones: stretches with no laugh mechanism at all.
  • Map callbacks and show which ones the audience can't possibly remember.
  • Rewrite the three weakest lines and explain each change.

What it measures

  • Laughs per minute (once audio is in)
  • Time to first laugh
  • Premise density and punch-to-setup ratio
  • Tag efficiency per premise
  • Pace, pauses and word economy

The curriculum

  1. 01

    Structure

Where the set is actually built and where it's just talking.

  2. 02

    Openers

Buy trust in the first thirty seconds or spend the set earning it back.

  3. 03

    Middles

The part everyone neglects and every audience feels.

  4. 04

    Closers

End on the biggest thing, not the last thing you wrote.

  5. 05

    Callbacks

Payoffs the room is set up to remember.

  6. 06

    Cutting

The most reliable rewrite is deletion.

Audio and video analysis land in Phase 5. Text analysis comes first because most sets die on the page.
