Act 6 — Master the stage · Week 48 of 52

Improvisation

What becomes possible when you stop protecting your script?

Go onstage with nothing and come off with something.

The five moves

Same rhythm, every week.

  1. 1Study

Improvisers and comics who go off-book on purpose.

Watch on purpose. Specific comedians, specific reason.

  2. 2Deconstruct

Note the difference between discovery and panic.

Isolate one mechanism. Name it before you use it.

  3. 3Write

    Nothing. Deliberately.

10–25 premises minimum. Quantity buys quality.

  4. 4Perform

Five minutes with no prepared material.

Somewhere live. The classroom is useful; the audience is the laboratory.

  5. 5Review

    Where did presence beat preparation?

Watch the tape. Log what the room did, not what you felt.

The Comedy Genome

Tag what made you laugh.

Tag every joke you studied this week. After a few months the pattern stops being an opinion and becomes your comedy DNA.

Your twin asks

Eleven questions, every week.
