Improv Heightening

Unscripted theatrical performance where actors spontaneously generate characters, dialogue, and story in real time without pre-planning.

The foundational rule requiring players to validate an onstage reality and immediately supply new information to advance it.

Mutual consent between performers to treat every established fact as absolute truth within the reality of the scene.

Embracing an onstage partner's premise without hesitation, skepticism, or subtle attempts to alter their underlying contribution.

Any spoken line, physical gesture, or emotional reaction that introduces a potential fact into the unscripted narrative.

A piece of specific, helpful information deliberately given to an onstage partner to make their job significantly easier.

Assigning a specific role, trait, emotion, or status to your partner through explicit dialogue or targeted physical behavior.

Building directly on top of existing stage information instead of resetting the narrative or introducing competing unrelated ideas.

Rejecting a partner's established idea, effectively killing the narrative momentum and forcing the scene to reset its reality.

Pretending an obvious stage reality or partner's explicit statement did not happen, instantly destroying the audience's belief.

Stalling on stage by debating meaningless choices instead of making a bold decision that propels the action forward.

Providing a logical reason for an accidental mistake, weird choice, or contradiction to maintain narrative coherence and credibility.
