Act 3 — Study the masters · Week 19 of 52

Joan Rivers

What does ruthless punchline density feel like from the front row?

Double your joke-per-minute rate for one set.

The five moves

Same rhythm, every week.

  1. 1Study

Late-career club sets. Count punches per minute.

Watch on purpose. Specific comedians, specific reason.

  2. 2Deconstruct

One 5-minute stretch: mark every laugh. Compare density to your own set.

Isolate one mechanism. Name it before you use it.

  3. 3Write

    A 3-minute run with a punch every 12 seconds.

10–25 premises minimum. Quantity buys quality.

  4. 4Perform

Perform it faster than feels comfortable.

Somewhere live. The classroom is useful; the audience is the laboratory.

  5. 5Review

Did speed hide weak jokes or expose them?

Watch the tape. Log what the room did, not what you felt.

The Comedy Genome

Tag what made you laugh.

Tag every joke you studied this week. After a few months the pattern stops being an opinion and becomes your comedy DNA.

Your twin asks

Eleven questions, every week.
