English teachers have spent 200 years pretending Shakespeare was a serious man. Shakespeare wrote a character named Bottom, gave him a donkey head, and had a fairy queen fall in love with him. He put a pun about 'country matters' in Hamlet and then had Hamlet explain the pun, which is a comedian tagging his own joke because the room was slow.
