Setup / punch architecture
The setup builds an assumption. The punch replaces it. Everything else is decoration.
A joke is a small con. The setup gets the audience to believe an interpretation without noticing they chose it. The punch reveals a second interpretation that was there the whole time. The laugh is the sound of their brain switching tracks.
