Act 6 — Master the stage · Week 41 of 52

Timing

What lives in the fraction of a second before a laugh?

Get a laugh using nothing but a pause.

The five moves

Same rhythm, every week.

  1. 1Study

    Deadpan and pause-heavy performers.

Watch on purpose. Specific comedians, specific reason.

  2. 2Deconstruct

Time the pauses. Actually count them.

Isolate one mechanism. Name it before you use it.

  3. 3Write

Mark your best 10 jokes with deliberate pause points.

10–25 premises minimum. Quantity buys quality.

  4. 4Perform

Perform them holding each pause one beat longer than comfortable.

Somewhere live. The classroom is useful; the audience is the laboratory.

  5. 5Review

Where did silence build and where did it leak?

Watch the tape. Log what the room did, not what you felt.
