Act 5 — Storytelling · Week 37 of 52

Escalation

Is every beat worse, stranger or more revealing than the last?

Make each beat 20 percent worse than the one before.

The five moves

Same rhythm, every week.

  1. 1Study

Stories that build rather than meander.

Watch on purpose. Specific comedians, specific reason.

  2. 2Deconstruct

Chart the trouble level beat by beat on a 1–10 scale.

Isolate one mechanism. Name it before you use it.

  3. 3Write

Chart your own story. Fix every flat section.

10–25 premises minimum. Quantity buys quality.

  4. 4Perform

    Perform the escalated version.

Somewhere live. The classroom is useful; the audience is the laboratory.

  5. 5Review

Where did the laughs plateau? That's where the story stopped climbing.

Watch the tape. Log what the room did, not what you felt.

The Comedy Genome

Tag what made you laugh.

Tag every joke you studied this week. After a few months the pattern stops being an opinion and becomes your comedy DNA.

Your twin asks

Eleven questions, every week.
